From Chica-going
Pelican is one of Chicago's most intense (and best) bands. Playing a deep instrumental groove that drives listeners with force, Pelican still manages to be gripping and meaningful. Sounding like Explosions in the Sky fueled by whiskey and meth, Pelican has gained critical praise in droves. With the release of their second DVD, Pelican will be seeing more where that came from. Black Cobra (heavy metal) and Unearthly Trance (dark rock) open. Tonight at the Bottle.
It's Friday night and it's time to get rocking. You'll have no issues getting it done if you stop by Ronny's. Fetor plays slashing, heavy indie rock with the demanding and melodic vocals of frontman Brandon Weatherbee. Altgeld Forgotten is another heavy band -- we've seen mosh pits at their shows, real life mosh pits. Ladykiller might remind you of a meth-fueled Soundgarden. Mixing all these badasses together could be a dangerous combo, but that's what the weekend is for right?
Ekoostik Hookah has been trudging along at the music game for more than 15 years now and have gained a regional fan base that rivals many other nationally known acts. Attracting upwards of 10,000 people to some shows in Ohio, their fanbase has stayed much smaller in other places due to grassroots album promotion and infrequent tour dates. The band’s high-powered guitar rock sounds like parts of Lynard Skynard, String Cheese Incident and Little Feat all in a prototypical jamband package. Fri at Martyrs.
