The Night Hours - Self-Titled Debut
The Night Hours first record is beaming with artful sounds amongst rainy day orchestration and mood music that harkens to Lost Generation Paris. You can't help but feel like you're at a sidewalk cafe on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées sipping vino, smoking cheap cigarettes and pouring over The Sun Also Rises. Despite an encompassing array of sounds, The Night Hours still manage to keep it stark and straight-forward on thier debut. Sarah Katheryn's vocals are angelic, with a hint of a mother's warning in her voice. It seems that Sarah has intentionally created a story with each song, taking you down a road of self doubt, understanding, realization, and peace.
The drum beats underneath Afterglow coupled with the strings creates a club like mysticism. Move forward to track number 5-The Stronger and listen as it holds you still in a trance until the bitter end. Our personal favorite and last track on the album, Kyrie, provides a conclusion that is both reflective and leaves you feeling curiously rejuvenated. With a vibe similar to Tori Amos, Sarah shows a unique experimental style using all of her assets.
