Ok...Protoman, Eric Lab Rat, Peoples Projects and more are getting together to benefit Off Grid Radio.  Anytime shitty beer and vegan jello shots are on the same menu - you have to get there.

Friday means parties and concerts of course and this is a nice one. Cameras and The Strange Young Lovers with Maradona is a mighty solid triple bill. Schubas continues to consistently book amazng shows, so do yourself a favor and check it out.

Finding new music on Myspace is always a crap shoot, but we came across a local band called Fast Falls the Eventide and were immediately hooked. Their soulful grunge sound offers up meaningful feel with enough power to call it rock. Slightly atmospheric and experimental, FFTE puts forth a gutsy, entrancing sound. Together less than a year, look for this name to pop up more and more. They play with Roosevelt Jenkins and Once in Forever at Subterranean on Wednesday. All ages, $8.

For Gapersblock 1 year Anniversary we all wrote 3 things we love about Chicago music. Here is my very safe but accurate list.

Chicago is a city known world wide for music styles such as Blues, House, Post and Indie Rock.  But locally the diversification goes far beyond a few styles.  Without listing them all a majority of genres are extremly well represented in the Chicago area.  From Bluegrass to Punk and all that falls between, the city offers a buffett of music styles to choose from. It is wonderful to live in a city that is famous for multiple styles of muisc, but equally as special to have so many other genres thriving.

Coming from an area in Indiana where you'd be lucky to find one quaility live show a month within a 30 mile radius, Chicago offers dozens of shows I'd pay to see every night, sometimes up to 10 within a short walks distance.  And to make it even better, it's rather easy to find quality live performances for $5 or less.

Chicago's nightclub culture may not get mentioned in the same breath of New York or London, but it's the low-key, non-pretenious vibe that makes it so fresh.  With a recent wave of new clubs openings the scene is really booming and the choice of styles is rising along with it. 

Brent Pulse was a name I hadn't heard before a promo for his event landed in our inbox. His peaceful, ghostly music is really relaxing.  At Martyr's on Friday with Twilight Revival and Great Lakes Myth Society.

Flower Shoppe offers up some music to benefit Cat's Paw Theater.  $5 Saturday, 10pm-4am. 

Flameshovel Records throws together 3 wildly different bands for a Sunday night FREE show at the Double Door.  This is a nice showcase of 3 climbing city band, so get there at 8 and get in. Russian Circles, The Narrator and Bound Stems are on the bill.
