Quick commentary - More and more Mayor Daley reminds us of that cool Uncle that entertained you with fart jokes and drunken pranks when you were a kid but as you grew a little older you realized he's just a lush and still lives at home with his mom. For every cycling ordinance, there's a runway being torn up. For every push on education, there's cameras being installed in public intersections. For every on point comment at the DNC, there's a kickback job in the making. If there's a move to strengthen our diverse cultural fabric, there's a counter move to put machine guns in the hands of our cops. If you want to get a close up look at the contradictions in freedom and control in this city, you can look in the most obvious spot - Our Mayor.

Looking At Mostly Northside Alleys

When we saw the Timeout feature on alleys it had us pretty interested. With articles on our 1900 miles of hidden passages like alley surfing, history, etiquette and a best-of feature this was a solid attempt. One thing we noticed was in a city with lots of cool alleys we've peeped in Hyde Park, Pilsen, Beverly and Rogers Park, almost all the 'top rated' alleys are in the near Northside. (save one in Chinatown) Venture out a little bit Timeout.  The city stretches pretty far and wide.
