It's great to be able to have a night play out perfect for someone like us - meaning someone without major cash to throw around. It's about who you know and how you can get positioned. (or angles as our friends some time say) We walked into the sold out Quintron & Miss Pussycat/Black Lips show as kids waited for miracle tickets to show at around 10. The best part was that we had walked about 2 minutes to get to the show with the Auditorium literally across the street. Hell, we've been very happy to hit shows at the Sub't and Ronny's lately which were not too far for us. The days a few years back we used to trudge down Western on the bus to get to the Bottle or Wicker Park seem - happily - long gone. As we arrived in the the auditorium we took a beer from our bag. We quickly realized that Old Style cans weren't around, so we sucked it down and got positioned to shoot. The press surrounding this show was that it'd be rowdy and that was pretty accurate. Kids were passed out, dirty girls danced wildly and well the bands played their part. There was some crowd surfing, some stage rushes and even a half-assed mosh pit. Whiskey fueled energy from the Black Lips made the crowd frenzied. We slide "backstage" and got up next to Ian, the lead guitarist. He was totally funked. After each song the rest of the guys would shout to him what the next song was and kind of remind him of things. At one point he looked over at me in-between songs and asked where the afterparty was. Luckily I knew it was at Sonotheque and when he turned to the crowd to announce it, I'm pretty sure he said Sonorock. (After the show he asked me again and just laughed a drunken little laugh when I told him) The place was sweaty and heated, especially upfront. The band definitely delivered on their hype and bawdiness. Deciding to skip the afterparty so we could take advantage of the short walk home, happy to have a nice and easy night of grubby rock and roll. Enjoy our photos in the dark auditorium.
