Weekend Worth Whiles
While New'd's name could be great for many more "exotic" shops, the New'd in Ukranian Village just sells new and used clothes -- and occasionaly hosts art events. This show features work from local stencilers tiptoe and saro, who both lean toward a street-art vibe, with a little commercial flavor mixed in. Tone P and DJ 40 oz. spin the tunes, and free beer has been promised, so grab a can and scan the art. Plus, you get 30 percent off any clothing in the store during the opening, which goes until 11 p.m tonight.
While the band Omega Moos got their name from the sorority on Animal House, they don't sound much like a typical college party band. Part of progressive leaning Umphrey's Mcgee and part of electro-house styled New Deal (for the most part defunct), Omega Moos read like a Seventies act a la King Crimson. $20 may be too much to spend on a show of this nature (and for many surely it is), but this is a unique show that only happens once and awhile. Sat. at Kinetic Playground.
Rockstars are DJs? What is the world coming to? Well it can't be any worse then DJs thinking they are rockstars. Members from two of Chicago's hottest bands come together for a chill night of dance and draught at Sonotheque. Darren Spitzer of The Changes and Matt DuFour have been spinning for a while now, but Office's Jessica is just getting her feet wet behind the decks. Don't expect a mad night of clubbing, but rather a nice change of pace for a cold Saturday night.
