Rating New Albums For All
Amazing Baby, Rewild- Another band falling into the MGMT genre. Dreamy, expansive pop forcing label (and unimaginative) of neo-hippie by marketing drones. But what band isn't these days? Enjoy the blissful, catchy rock. 88
Cassettes Won't Listen, Into The Hillside - Think Plaid Rest Proof Clockwork. It's that good. Instrumental Indie, Hip-hop beats and electronic production melt together nicely on CWL's (Jason Drake) second full length. This album would be ranked higher but it gets a little repetitive at times. 88
Tortoise, Beacons of Ancestorship -Maybe it was too much to expect, but we were hoping for an album of the year candidate, but our lofty sights weren't met. Closer to acid jazz then post rock, the band's first new album in five years is experimental, but you'd expect nothing less from Tortoise. Complex, layered, stark but kept together by a respect for the bigger picture. 86
Phenomenal Hand Clap Band, S/T -Yet one more band that might bow down to MGMT. Or at least channel them once and awhile. Really dance floor worthy, but molded with plenty of eclectic turns to make the album innovative. 88
