Hype Confirmed, Damn Good Record
We got through one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year, Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective last night. The follow up to one of the most acclaimed works of '07, Strawberry Jam, the band keeps the combined vibe of Flaming Lips/Mercry Rev but flutters off into more breezy dance territory. This is a really impressive album showing the groups range and depth of style choices, but keeping it all simple, concise and joyous. Animal Collective's growth reminds us of Radioheads in many ways. Strawberry Jam=OK Computer, MPP=Kid A. There isn't as much abruptness as you might expect as MMP marches along with a spring - robust (confident) and pure (meaningful). The album also is longer then most albums these days coming in at over 55 minutes. Record is out today on vinyl with digital downloads and Jan. 20th old school. Pick it up.
