We got out to many good events this weekend, but we're posting the pix from the Chicago Marathon/Occidental Brothers Dance Band first. By the time we got to Ashland and Adams the half way group of the runners were cruising by. The heat was getting to them and as you probably heard the race had to be called due to poor planning for the weather. The outpouring and emotion of support from the crowd was amazing. People calling out the names they read on shirts for encouragment and cheering on complete strangers was an unexpected positive. Families hugged their mom or dad during quick breaks and then cheered them to carry on. Unknowns handed out water, band-aids and offered to even tie shoes for tired participants who stopped in the shade for a short strech or rest. All the while just off the course the Occidental Brothers played thier unique style of African dance music to keep the runners moving and the crowd entertained. The whole experience of watching a major race was new and we came away very impressed. A positive experience of human will and emotion to say the least. And some good music on top of that. Take a look at the shots here.
